Foyer

Chestnut Hills, Toronto

As the entrance to our home, the foyer should provide an inviting and welcoming atmosphere for both homeowners and guests. To achieve this, we made the decision to open up the space and relocate the staircase. In addition, we added a coffee station within the arch nook, which is situated directly opposite the library, providing a convenient spot for at-home meetings. The surroundings of the coffee station double as wainscoting paneling and cabinets for practical functionality, offering ample storage for coats, shoes, coffee supplies, and other essentials. By combining form and function, our foyer has become an elegant yet practical space that sets the tone for the rest of our home.

The coffee station in our foyer features a live edge walnut slab as its countertop. We intentionally designed this as the focal point of the space, inviting passerby to appreciate the natural wooden grains and texture. Additionally, the coffee station was strategically positioned next to a window, which allows the natural light to create beautiful patterns and shadows on the surface of the walnut countertop. This combination of natural elements add warmth and character to the space, and elevates the functionality of the coffee station, creating a peaceful and refreshing environment to enjoy a morning cup of coffee.

We introduced the imported baked tiles from Portugal, which are also featured in the mudroom. These lead to the coffee station with an classic victorian style and elegance. Brass fixtures were used for the lights and entrance hooks. A waterfall walnut bench was placed at the entrance next to the arch entrance door.
