Basement

Chestnut Hills, Toronto

We created a truly stunning space with a combination of design elements that harmoniously blend together. A bespoke oak wine wall was skillfully integrated into the room, with integrated LED lighting that adds a touch of sophistication to the ambiance. The bar area was inspired by an Art Deco theme. We designed it to include a statement arch. To add to the vintage feel, we curated a gallery wall using authentic vintage magazines that we sourced directly from Nottinghill, UK. These elements come together to create a truly unique and unforgettable space that is both chic and timeless.

The basement was thoughtfully crafted to cater to the diverse entertainment needs of the family, with versatility being the cornerstone of its design. To that end, we created a movable island that can be rolled away, freeing up space for other activities. The bar area is equipped with not only a wine rack but also two additional wine fridges, ensuring that there is always a perfect bottle of wine within reach. The basement's design stands in stark contrast to the rest of the home, with a bold departure from the customary white colour scheme to a sleek and sophisticated black tone, evoking a sense of modern elegance.

After several months of deliberation, we finally uncovered a fun purpose for the previously wasted space under the staircase. While the idea of a wine rack initially came to mind, we felt that it lacked the originality and excitement that the homeowners were looking for. Instead, we decided to create a Moroccan-inspired space, complete with a hanging basket chair and an ottoman for additional seating. This area was designed to be a cozy reading nook, with a vibrant and eye-catching gallery wall as a backdrop. This once forgotten space has been transformed into a haven of relaxation and inspiration, showcasing the endless possibilities that come with thoughtful design.

A home theatre was one of wish list items of the clients. So we delivered. Opting for dark walls and matching carpet, we recreated the atmosphere typically found in movie theatres. The pink velvet couches add a playful pop of colour and continue the fun and inviting atmosphere of the basement. On the opposite side a nanny’s bedroom was built to handle the needs of a live in helper in a modern household. We created a beautiful en-suite bathroom with bookmatched slabs. The powder room in the common area was designed with the same tiles used for the backsplash in the bar.
